Meals on Wheels – Hot Meals

Meals on Wheels is a volunteer-driven program that delivers hot nutritious lunches to home-bound or isolated seniors and to those with reduced autonomy. A medical or social service referral is required to access this service. The Meals on Wheels program in the West Island began in a church kitchen in Lachine in 1969. Now, more than 600 volunteer shoppers, cooks, and drivers work in 9 Meals on Wheels kitchens throughout the West Island. Volunteers come from all walks of life and include retired workers, business professionals, homemakers, teachers, entrepreneurs, students and many others. Their combined efforts allow over 200 vulnerable people to receive hot meals twice a week at minimal cost.

The meals consist of a balanced main meal and a dessert. All meals are freshly cooked, hot, home-made, prepared and delivered by our volunteers who add a special secret ingredient: their love.
